Robertson: Fortress Fratton So Important

Skipper looking to continue fine home form

Pompey are gearing up for two Fratton fixtures against sides with plenty to play for in the final week of the League One season.

Saturday’s clash with relegation-threatened Gillingham precedes a floodlit contest with a Wigan side chasing the title.

But the Blues have been imperious on home soil in recent times – not being beaten on the south coast since the end of January.

And Clark Robertson has praised the role of the supporters in helping to make the ground a place that other sides dread visiting.

The skipper said: “We’re now unbeaten in the past eight games here, with six victories and two draws.

“It’s important that we carry that on and into next season – we want to make the ground a real fortress.

"We’ve probably been a lot of better at reacting to falling behind than we were earlier on in the season."

“Since the end of January, we’ve been on a decent run and have collected almost two points per game.

“That’s promotion form, so things have come together and you can see there’s a real team spirit building here.

“We’ve probably been a lot of better at reacting to falling behind than we were earlier on in the season.

“The supporters have also been excellent and stuck with us throughout. That’s been really important to us.

“We were pegged back at Lincoln after being two goals ahead, but they were still singing and supporting us.”

Robertson recently opened his Pompey account by breaking the deadlock in the impressive 3-0 victory over his former club Rotherham.

The defender said: “I do need to get more goals to be fair – it’s something that I want to add to my game.”
