Hackett: Make An Impression

Winger looks ahead to Crawley contest

29 August 2022

Pompey’s bright start to the League One season sees them sitting at the summit after the opening six games.

And Reeco Hackett does not want to see them easing off the accelerator as the focus switches to the Papa John’s Trophy.

A short trip to Crawley is next up for the Blues in their first fixture in Southern Group B, which also includes AFC Wimbledon and Aston Villa U21s.

There are likely to be changes to the side that won at Port Vale on Saturday and Hackett knows that the contest provides an occasion to impress.

He said: “The boys who haven’t played quite as much recently will have the opportunity to get some game time.

“I’m still catching up a bit myself after the injury at the end of last season and so I just have to work hard every day and make the most of any chances I get.

"It’s important for everyone who is in the side to make a positive contribution, so we can maintain this good form."

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s coming off the bench or starting, I’m always looking to make an impact on the game.

“It’s important for everyone who is in the side to make a positive contribution, so we can maintain this good form.”

The match is Pompey’s eighth of a busy August and Hackett is hoping they can end the month on a high.

He said: “We’re all used to playing Saturday, then Tuesday, so that doesn’t come as a shock. We’ll prepare properly and be ready for the game.

“We want to get a positive result. It doesn’t matter what the competition is – you want to go out there and win.

“So we approach it in exactly the same way as we would the league or any of the other cups we’re involved in.”
