It has not been just any old transfer for Tom Lowery.
The midfielder is moving for the first time in his career after leaving hometown club Crewe at the end of last season.
He had been with the Cheshire outfit since childhood and helped them win promotion to League One in 2020.
But now Lowery feels that the time is right for a change and is delighted to make Pompey his new home.
The 24-year-old said: “I’m really excited because this is a massive club and I cannot wait to get started.
“I’ve known about the interest for quite a while, but it was just a few days ago that a deal was actually close and from that point, this was the only place I wanted to come.
"I would say I’m a technical player with a lot of energy – I like to get up and down the pitch – and want to get on the ball."
“It’s a new start for me, having been at Crewe since the age of nine and I definitely feel like I’m ready for a new challenge.
“I enjoyed my time there and got a promotion. There were a lot of special moments, although last season didn’t go how we wanted.
“I spoke with the manager on the phone a few times and he told me all about this club and how great the fans are.
“We also discussed his plans for the team and what he wants to see from me. It was all really positive.
“I would say I’m a technical player with a lot of energy – I like to get up and down the pitch – and want to get on the ball.
“I believe that I can complement this group well and will work hard every day in training. I’ll give everything to help the team.”
