It is set to be a scorching weekend across the country this weekend, with some of the highest temperatures to be found in Cheltenham.

So a large army of travelling fans will be hoping that Pompey do not wilt in the heat when they visit Whaddon Road on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Danny Cowley’s side enjoyed a comfortable Carabao Cup win over Championship side Cardiff earlier in the week.

The Robins experienced a more sobering evening, however, as they were thrashed 7-0 at home by fellow third tier club Exeter.

It has been a disappointing start to the season for Wade Elliott’s men, who have been beaten in both of their league matches.

They let slip a two-goal lead to lose to Peterborough on the opening day before suffering a narrow defeat at Barnsley.

Pompey have only won two of their previous nine meetings with Cheltenham, six of which ended all square.

Their only reverse came at Whaddon Road last season, with Liam Sercombe netting the only goal in the second half.

TEAM NEWS
Pompey will be waiting on the fitness of Denver Hume, Connor Ogilvie and Clark Robertson, as the trio step up their returns to full fitness.

Joe Morrell (groin), Jayden Reid (hamstring) and Ryan Tunnicliffe (hamstring) all remain sidelined for the Blues.

Josh Griffiths and Marlon Pack both previously spent time at Cheltenham, who will be without Matty Blair (knee).
