Joe Pigott will undoubtedly hit cleaner strikes in a Pompey shirt than the one he managed at Cardiff.
But the striker was just delighted to see the ball find the net in a 3-0 victory in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
The goal was added to by a Ronan Curtis penalty before substitute Colby Bishop headed home to wrap up a memorable night against Championship opposition.
That was despite the visitors making six alterationss to their side and fielding a selection of young players.
Pigott said: “It’s a fantastic night for us to make as many changes as we did and get what was a very good win.
“It wasn’t my greatest strike and it took a while to get into the net, but I was really happy to get off the mark.
"We actually could have had a few more and there are a lot of young lads who can take experience and confidence from that."
“I haven’t had many opportunities myself, although I created a few in the opening game, but to score the first is a big deal for anyone.
“We had to dig deep in the first half, but there was a feeling that we could pose a threat if we got on the ball and started playing.
“We actually could have had a few more and there are a lot of young lads who can take experience and confidence from that.
“I sometimes forget how young Dane Scarlett is, but he’s a powerful athlete with great skill and will be a real threat for us.”
Pompey will now look to use the result as a springboard to League One success at Cheltenham on Saturday.
Pigott said: “It’s a long old season and we’re still building, so the wins and goals will come – it’s about getting to know everyone’s game and personalities.
“There’s time to do that, but we want to do it as soon as possible because you don’t want to play catch-up.”
