Joe Rafferty has only experienced disappointment on his previous visits to Fratton Park.

The defender has previously been in the losing Rochdale squad during south coast clashes with Pompey.

So he is looking forward to the new feeling of being roared on by the majority of fans packed into the stands.

And the summer signing wants the Blues to build on their fine second half display at Hillsborough on the opening day when Lincoln visit this weekend.

Rafferty said: “I can’t wait. I’ve wanted to get out in front of those fans at Fratton Park since the moment I signed.

“I’ve been told really good things about it and I can remember coming here with Rochdale, when we weren’t so good and were beaten.

“I think I’ve actually been on the losing side twice at the ground before, although that was obviously good for Pompey.

“When we played Coventry my family were there and loved sitting in the new stand. The place looks really nice and I’m looking forward to it.

“It was a brilliant game at Sheffield Wednesday last week and had a bit of everything and if that’s anything to go by, we’re in for a really good season.

“We’ve got a lot of experienced pros who know and understand the game, so that’s definitely going to help us.”

Pompey had to settle for a point against the Owls, but Rafferty hopes they can secure a better result on Saturday.

He said: “We’re going to look to get into Lincoln from the very first whistle and do our best to come away with the win.”
