Pompey’s under-18 side get their latest Youth Alliance League campaign underway this weekend.
They are hosting last season’s champions Bournemouth at Fareham’s Cams Alders ground in a game that kicks-off at 11am.
It will be the first fixture in charge for new lead professional development phase coach Zesh Rehman.
And although results are not the most important part of youth football, the former Fulham, QPR and Bradford defender is looking for a positive start from his side.
"We want to develop a winning mindset here and so that will always be how we approach every single game."
He said: “We’ve had a good pre-season and picked up no new injuries, while integrating those players who are returning to fitness.
“Now we have to put into practice those things we’ve worked on over the summer when we face Bournemouth.
“We want to develop a winning mindset here and so that will always be how we approach every single game.
“There will be times when we enjoy victories and other times when we lose, but we’re looking to get the players into the right habits.
“If they can do that – starting against Bournemouth – then it goes a long way towards their overall development.”
