Pompey will be looking to start the new year by halting their winless run when they host Charlton on Sunday (3pm kick-off).

The two sides currently share an unwanted record of not having tasted success in League One since October 22.

Sean Raggett’s goal secured a 1-0 victory for the Blues at Forest Green that day, while the Addicks triumphed by the same scoreline at Shrewsbury.

Both have enjoyed success in other competitions since then and Danny Cowley’s men have an exciting trip to Tottenham to look forward in the FA Cup to next weekend.

Charlton were shocked by Stockport in the second round, but have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

They saw off top-flight Brighton on penalties just before Christmas to set up to a visit to Manchester United in just over a week’s time.

Dean Holden watched that match from the stands after replacing Ben Garner as manager and has overseen a draw with Peterborough and defeat at Oxford in his first two games.

It leaves the Londoners sitting 18th in the standings and just three points above the drop zone with half their fixtures played.

Pompey slumped to a 3-0 defeat when they visited The Valley earlier this season, while Charlton have won nine of the past 10 Fratton Park contests.

Louis Thompson (leg) is moving closer to a return to action, with Tom Lowery (hamstring) also back in training.

Kieron Freeman (calf), Joe Rafferty (stomach) and Jayden Reid (knee) remain sidelined, while there are doubts over Colby Bishop (rib) and Clark Robertson (hip).

Mandela Egbo (quad), Eoghan O’Connell (knee), Conor McGrandles (ankle) and Joe Wollacott (finger) are all missing for the visitors.

Charlton also have doubts over the fitness of Chuks Aneke (hamstring), Diallang Jaiyesimi (hip)and Steven Sessegnon (knee).
