Morrison: A Frustrating Afternoon

Defender looking for improvement after loss at Wycombe

4 December 2022

Michael Morrison knows that Pompey need to up their performance levels to start climbing back up the League One table.

Goals from Anis Mehmeti and Garath McCleary saw a long unbeaten run end with a 2-0 defeat at Wycombe.

It was a disappointing display available to watch throughout the UK and around the world after being selected for live television coverage.

And Morrison wants to see a vast improvement when the Blues make the long trip up to Accrington next weekend.

The defender said: “We’re disappointed and didn’t get near to the levels that were required to win this game.

“You want to show your best self when you’re live on television, but instead we showed the bad side of us.

"There was an honest conversation at the break. We’ve set standards for ourselves and so we need to improve."

“We weren’t good enough either with or without the ball and if that’s the case at a place like this then you’ll get beaten.

“Wycombe were very proactive and we were a bit reactive, while we didn’t deal with deliveries into our box.

“It was frustrating because it looked like the manager had picked a side that was capable of doing that.

“There was an honest conversation at the break. We’ve set standards for ourselves and so we need to improve.

“It was a little bit better in the second half, although not enough. So we’ve got to fix things and be ready to go again next week.

“You could see the fans were very frustrated and the fans are as well. We’ve come off it a bit and need to work through that.”
