Raggett: Positives To Take

Defender looking to build on draw at Exeter

26 December 2022

Pompey were unable to turn their numerous chances into any goals in a stalemate at Exeter.

But Sean Raggett is hopeful that the Boxing Day Devon draw will be enough to spark an upturn in form.

It came off the back of a successive League One defeats for the Blues and saw a much improved performance.

Raggett was frustrated that they could only leave St James Park with a single point, although felt there were plenty of positives.

The defender said: “We’re disappointed with the result because it felt like we’d done more than enough to win the game.

“Their man-of-the-match was definitely the goalkeeper and that tells a story – he pulled of some great saves.

“We had the chances and the performance was a lot better than it has been in the past few weeks, but ultimately we’ve only come away with a point.

“I compare it to when we went to Accrington on a bad run last season and drew. We did well after that and so hopefully this match can spark something for us.

“You just have to keep going, try to create opportunities and get that win, which unfortunately hasn’t happened on this occasion.

“But although there’s that feeling of frustration now, we can certainly take some positives going into the next one.

“I have to mention the fans as well. It was brilliant to see so many of them travelling this far on Boxing Day and they were excellent. You could hear them throughout.”

Raggett has escaped the sickness bug that saw Jay Mingi, Dane Scarlett and Connor Ogilvie all miss out.

He said: “I’ve not been too bad. Some of the lads have been affected, but I’m sure we’re not the only team in the league dealing with it.

“It’s that time of year and some of the boys out there weren’t 100 per cent. Hopefully we’ll get no more illness.”
