Clark Robertson understood the frustration that emanated from the stands when the final whistle blew.
The Fratton faithful had just seen Pompey fall to a 2-0 defeat against MK Dons – ending an unbeaten home run that stretched back to January.
A short corner routine in each half led to Bradley Johnson and Jack Tucker finding the net for the struggling visitors.
And Robertson knows that the Blues have to do better after slipping down the standings in recent weeks.
Pompey’s skipper said: “It’s a difficult one to sum up. We’re going through a tough time as a team, but we actually started well and were on the front foot.
“But it’s the same old story – we conceded the first goal from a set-piece and that’s been a problem all season.
"It’s a tight division and we can’t keep wasting opportunities to pick up three points and climb the table."
“They were both rubbish ones that have gone in. We understand the fans’ frustration and take it on the chin.
“At the moment it feels like every team is coming here and scoring with their first shot on goal – they’re not having to break us down.
“But it’s only us as players who can turn this league form around and we’ve certainly got the squad to do that.
“We all know that the standards need to be a lot better and there’s an experienced group who know how to get out of this league.
“It’s a tight division and we can’t keep wasting opportunities to pick up three points and climb the table.
“We’ve got to stick together and understand that the supporters have every right to voice their opinion because they pay their money.
“First and foremost we’ve let ourselves down, but we know that we have also let them down and have to work to turn things around.”
