Denver Hume’s Pompey debut saw him roll a shot agonisingly wide of the post after just three minutes.

But it ultimately ended in disappointment, with his new team beaten 2-1 by Charlton at Fratton Park.

The Blues will now look to get their first league victory of 2022 on the board when they visit Oxford at the weekend.

And Hume is confident that they can put things right against a side sitting sixth in the League One standings.

The January signing said: “It’s a really important game for us because we have gone a few now without getting a win.

“I felt there were bits that we did really well against Charlton the other night, but then other bits that didn’t go so well.

“We’ve had a couple of good days of training since that result and have been working hard to try to achieve a positive result on Saturday.

"We need that result to spark a good run that can hopefully take us through until the end of the season."

“I’ve settled in well here and it was useful to get 90 minutes under my belt straight away – that always helps.

“Now I’m hoping to be involved again at Oxford and we’ll be going there looking to take all three points.

“We need that result to spark a good run that can hopefully take us through until the end of the season.

“We’ll be facing a decent footballing side, so it will be a real test for us, but we just need to focus on our own game-plan.”

Pompey will be backed by around 1,700 fans on Saturday, with the ticket allocation quickly snapped up.

Hume said: “It's always great to have that level of support on the road. I’m sure they’ll be cheering us on.

“All the lads are really appreciative of it and hopefully that can give us the extra edge we need to win the game.”
