Striker's delight at Fratton loan switch

Dane Scarlett signs for Pompey

Dane Scarlett has quite some pedigree for a footballer who only turned 18 a few months ago.

The striker has enjoyed regular training sessions with the Tottenham first team, briefly becoming the youngest player to ever feature in a competitive match for them.

And he has recently returned from the European Under-19 Championship, helping England to lift the trophy.

Now Scarlett is looking to help Pompey enjoy a successful League One campaign after joining on loan for the season.

He said: “This is an ambitious club with plenty of history and so I see a real opportunity for me at Pompey.

“I spoke to the gaffer and what he said to me was appealing, so now I’m just really excited to get started.

"We’ll be looking to win as many games as possible this season and personally, I’m looking to kick on and get some more minutes."

“Getting to see – and compete against – some of the best players in the world every day in training has helped me.

“You can learn so much from Harry Kane just by watching him and everything he does on the pitch is perfect.

“Now I’m excited to meet the boys here and I only really know Josh Oluwayemi, who recently signed.

“We’ll be looking to win as many games as possible this season and personally, I’m looking to kick on and get some more minutes.”

Scarlett netted two group stage goals for the Three Lions in Slovakia, also starting the final triumph against Israel.

He said: “It was a brilliant experience and a proud moment for me, but now I want to go bigger and better.

“We worked together and built a real bond and chemistry, so we were ready for the finals and were able to push through to get the victory.”
