Danny Cowley was delighted with the battling qualities of his side to collect a point at Ipswich.
A goalless contest between two in-form teams in Suffolk ensured Pompey extended their unbeaten run to eight games.
There was not too much to test either keeper, with Aiden O’Brien twice narrowly failing to find the target in the first half.
The hosts also enjoyed a spell of pressure after the break and a late Macauley Bonne goal was ruled out for offside.
But Cowley felt his men were good value for a share of the spoils and also reserved praise for the travelling fans.
The Blues boss said: “It was a really hard-fought and well earned point against the super heavyweights of the division.
“You look at the Ipswich squad and the players on their bench, but we showed that we can compete with them – both on the pitch and in the stands.
"The amount of noise they provided was unbelievable and I think they saw a group that was giving everything."
“There were 2,000 Pompey supporters in a crowd of more than 25,000, but they were absolutely incredible.
“The amount of noise they provided was unbelievable and I think they saw a group that was giving everything.
“We’ve only got 13 senior outfield players available at the moment during this incredibly intense run of games.
“But we’ve gone eight games unbeaten now and six of them have been wins, which is testament to the spirit of this group and their willingness to run hard for each other.
“Ipswich are a very well coached side and have improved significantly as the season has gone on, which shows in their results.
“So you’ll have to come to Portman Road and enjoy defending at times. If you do that, then moments will come on the counter-attack.
“I thought we had the best chance of the game and we couldn’t take it, while we have in recent matches.”
