Pompey’s past three matches have come against sides above them in the League One table and just one goal has been conceded.
Unfortunately, though, they have failed to find the net at the other end and collected just a couple of points.
The side looked solid again when Wycombe visited Fratton Park, although could not break their opponents down and the game finished goalless.
Danny Cowley was happy with the work his side did against the ball, but wanted to see more attacking verve.
The Blues boss said: “We’re disappointed because we looked flat and didn’t play with the energy and intensity we were looking for.
“I thought there was a purpose missing against a strong Wycombe side who offer a real athleticism and power.
“You have to earn the right to play against them and be courageous enough to take the ball and we didn’t do that.
"Offensively, in a match that we really wanted to win, we looked a bit tired and it’s hard to be too critical because of the schedule we’ve had."
“We couldn’t get into those good areas on enough occasions and when we did, we were lacking a spark.
“Gavin Bazunu’s a top keeper and has been brilliant with his feet all season, but we haven’t had to overly use him.
“He made some fine saves for us in this game, though, and I thought we it was a good overall defensive display.
“Offensively, however, in a match that we really wanted to win, we looked a bit tired and it’s hard to be too critical because of the schedule we’ve had.”
There was a controversial moment in the second half when George Hirst was clearly being manhandled by Ryan Tafazolli as he tried to burst through on goal, but no foul was given.
Cowley said: “I don’t want to talk about referees because what can I say? Everyone can see what’s happened.
“It’s just a shame that it’s the second game-changing decision that’s gone against us in successive matches.”
