Women Reach PDFA Cup Final

Blues see off US Portsmouth

9 March 2022

Pompey Women eased into the final of the Portsmouth Divisional FA Cup with a 7-0 victory at United Services Portsmouth.

Shannon Albuery and Annie Rolf both bagged a brace, while there were goals for Dani Lane, Danielle Rowe and teenage debutant Macey Walters.

Jay Sadler made five changes from the side that drew with Cardiff on home soil in the league at the weekend.

Rebekah Tonks, Anaisa Harney, Jaime Gotch Tamsin de Bunsen and skipper Rowe all returned to the line-up.

And they took an early lead when de Bunsen threaded a pass through to LANE, who rounded the keeper and slotted into the net.

ALBUERY soon doubled the advantage for the visitors by poking home after latching onto a loose ball.

And ALBUERY had another goal less than a minute later after Lane had teed the striker up inside the area.

ROLF quickly opened her account for the club by lifting a shot over the keeper from an acute angle on 21 minutes.

And ROWE made it 5-0 to the Blues before 30 minutes had passed after Harney’s effort had been parried into her path.

There was time for one more just before the break, as ROLF managed to bundle the ball home following a goalmouth scramble.

But US Portsmouth, to their credit, did not give up in the second half and they only conceded a single goal.

It was one to remember for 16-year-old substitute WALTERS, however, who fired home from close range.

Pompey: Haughton; Tonks, Gane (Woodard 46), Rowe (c); Quayle, Gotch, Rolf, Lane (Bridge 46), Harney; de Bunsen, Albuery (Walters 73)
