Blues Take Up Option On Reid Contract

Winger remaining with Pompey

18 May 2022

Pompey have taken up the option to extend Jayden Reid’s contract with the club.

The 21-year-old forward arrived at Fratton Park last summer after leaving Birmingham, where he made four Championship appearances.

But he suffered a serious knee injury in a pre-season friendly at Luton soon afterwards and was ruled out for the entire 2021/22 campaign.

Blues boss Danny Cowley said: “It was incredibly unfortunate for him to sign a contract with us and then, just a week later, pick up an injury that kept him out for the season.

“But the day that happened, we knew that we would exercise the option in his contract for another year.

"We’re all really looking forward to seeing what the 2022/23 campaign has in store for Jayden."

“That was always the right thing to do – both from a moral perspective and also because we really believe in him as a player.

“Jayden has got real athleticism and is fantastic on the counter-attack, while he’s also a really good finisher.

“We know how hard he’s had to work with the medical and sports science team to get fit again, but he was able to train with the squad towards the back-end of the season.

“So now we’re all really looking forward to seeing what the 2022/23 campaign has in store for Jayden.”

Pompey have previously taken up options in the contracts of Marcus Harness, Louis Thompson and Jay Mingi.
