Pompey’s position on the south coast ensures that plenty of motorway miles are racked up over the course of the season.

Fans who attend all of the club’s 23 away League One fixtures during the 2022/23 campaign will not be on the road for quite so long, however.

Using Fratton Park as a starting point, just under 8,100 miles will be covered – almost 600 fewer than last term.

That equates to around eight hours less time spent on the road, with Sunderland’s promotion to the Championship playing a big role in that respect.

The Black Cats’ play-off success means that the longest journey in terms of distance is now the trip to Morecambe.

According to the AA, though, a round trip to Fleetwood will actually take the longest time to complete.

But as well as losing last season’s longest trek, Pompey fans have also had to wave goodbye to the shortest.

The relatively quick jaunt up to Plough Lane to face AFC Wimbledon has vanished due to their relegation.

Wycombe are now the nearest opponents for Danny Cowley’s side and it should take you just over three hours to get there and back.

Many supporters will be keen to tick a new ground off the list and Forest Green’s League Two title success means a visit to The New Lawn is on the cards.

Port Vale succeeded in the fourth tier play-offs and that is a place the Blues have not been to for more than 20 years.

Derby will also likely be a popular destination, although the other newcomers – Exeter, Bristol Rovers, Peterborough and Barnsley – have all been familiar foes in recent years.

Whatever games you are looking out for, there is not too long to wait before fans can start planning their away-day excursions.
