It is a chance for players and fans alike to put their feet up and relax after a long and stressful season.

But Clark Robertson believes that the summer break has come at exactly the wrong time for Pompey.

A bountiful second half of the campaign saw them collect plenty of League One points – particularly on home soil.

And Robertson hopes the Blues can replicate that form when the competitive action starts up again at the end of July.

The skipper said: “We’d taken around two points a game since the transfer window closed and were really growing as a team.

“You could see that the squad was still gelling in the first half of the season, but the spirit has been there all the time.

“The break probably comes at the wrong time for us because it felt like we’d really started to find a rhythm.

"I think we all need to have a couple of weeks off, but I missed a big chunk of the games, so I can’t wait to get back."

“Now we’re looking forward to coming back later in the summer and hopefully having a successful season.

“I think we all need to have a couple of weeks off, but I missed a big chunk of the games, so I can’t wait to get back.”

Robertson has heaped praise on his centre-back partner Sean Raggett and goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, who have both recently collected a heap of fan awards.

He said: “Raggs had an outstanding season and has been a bit of a Rolls-Royce for us, performing on a consistent basis.

“I really enjoy competing alongside him and I think we complement each other well, so I’m hoping that partnership can continue.

“Gav is probably the best keeper I’ve ever played with and I know he’s going to go on and have an excellent career.

“He’s so calm in everything he does and is certainly going to be a difficult player for the manager to replace.”
