Bishop: We Kept Believing

Striker delighted to score in FA Cup win at Hereford

5 November 2022

When Miles Storey slotted Hereford ahead midway through the first half, an Emirates FA Cup upset was on the cards.

Many of those watching around the world would have been hoping to see the National League North outfit take Pompey’s scalp at Edgar Street.

But Colby Bishop revealed that the visitors never lost faith that they would progress to the second round.

And that is exactly what happened, with the striker giving them the lead after Reeco Hackett had levelled, then providing the assist for Joe Pigott to wrap things up.

He said: “It was tough – but what do you expect coming to a place like this?! You’re not going to come to Hereford and everything be perfect.

“You’ve got to ride the storm at times and I thought we did that well. We believed in what we were doing.

"We just said we had to keep believing and moving the ball. You could see that got easier in the second half when they tired."

“They came flying out of the traps, but – with all due respect – they’re probably not going to keep the same intensity as us throughout the match.

“We just said we had to keep believing and moving the ball. You could see that got easier in the second half when they tired.

“I don’t care who we get in the next round. We get whoever we get and then we just take it from there.”

Bishop nodded home from a Clark Robertson corner to take his tally for the season to 10 goals on his 26th birthday.

He said: “I love a glanced header. It’s something I’ve worked on a lot over the years and it’s always good when it pays off.

“When I woke up in the morning, I thought it would be nice to score on my birthday and it added the icing to the cake after getting through to the next round.

“I’m so grateful for where I am now and the opportunity that I’ve been given. I’ve got to keep taking it.”
