Hackett: Job Done

Goalscorer pleased to be in the hat for round three of the FA Cup

26 November 2022

Reeco Hackett was happy with a job well done for Pompey to progress to the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.

He cancelled out Darragh Burns’ opener for MK Dons, with a brace of Colby Bishop penalties leaving the Blues cruising at Fratton Park.

Mo Eisa ensured a nervy finale by reducing the visitors’ deficit, but they were unable to force a replay.

And although Hackett admitted that his side faded in the contest, he knows that the important thing is to be in the hat for Monday night’s draw.

The forward said: “It was a really good result and I thought we played well in the first half after changing the system.

“That’s never easy and you have to adapt to it, but we managed the game and reacted well to conceding the first goal.

"Obviously there’s a lot to work on, but we won the game and in a cup tie, that’s all you really need to do."

“There were a few moments after the break when we could have done better. We didn’t have the possession and when we won the ball back, we didn’t look a threat.

“Obviously there’s a lot to work on, but we won the game and in a cup tie, that’s all you really need to do.

“We’re missing some players, with a few injuries and a couple unavailable, so we’ve got through it well.

“There are a lot of leaders and big characters in this group and going into the last 20 minutes, we were strong enough to deal with the pressure.”

Hackett capitalised on Jay Mingi’s pass to score from the edge of the box and take his goal tally for the season to four.

He said: “I just saw a gap after the ball fell for Jay and saw the keeper wasn’t set, so I took it early and it was a decent finish.”
