Owen Dale does not think that Pompey are far away from finding the right recipe at Fratton Park.
A 1-1 stalemate with Shrewsbury means that they have now drawn each of the past League One matches on home soil.
Elliott Bennett’s finish gave the visitors the lead with their only shot on target before Zak Swanson curled home an equaliser.
And Dale felt that there was enough in the Blues’ performance to suggest they can start putting sides to the sword.
The on-loan winger said: “It was frustrating, although some of the football we played was top and we dominated the whole game really.
“We just lacked that cutting edge and finishing touch, but we performed well and there are a lot of positives to take.
“It’s never going to be easy when teams camp in like Shrewsbury did and it’s up to us to find the solutions to that.
“We did put good balls into the box and had some chances – there was enough from us to win the game.
“Everyone knows we have to start turning these draws into wins, but we’re unbeaten at home and just need those small margins.
“You have to take learning from these games, but I do think that we’re close to getting things right here.”
Danny Cowley revealed after the game that Joe Rafferty will need another operation on the stomach injury he suffered in September.
Dale said: “I’m gutted for Joe and he’s an important player for us. It’s a tough one to take, but he’ll come back stronger.”
