Griffiths: We'll Stay Positive

Keeper says Pompey remain confident ahead of Forest Green trip

21 October 2022

Josh Griffiths insists that Pompey are focused on getting their campaign back on track.

After a flying start to the season, the past four League One matches have yielded just a couple of points.

The Blues will aim to make a return to winning ways when they make a first ever trip to Forest Green on Saturday.

And England youth international Griffiths is confident that this run of results is nothing more than a blip.

The keeper said: “We’re all trying to stay positive – and there are a lot of things for us to stay positive about.

“Of course we’re not stupid and know it’s a bit of a rough patch for us at the moment, but we stick together and have a chance to put it right on Saturday.

"The focus is always on us because we know that we can really hurt other teams if we play to our best."

“There a lot of games still to play and we showed earlier in the season that we have more than enough quality to get back on track.

“The focus is always on us because we know that we can really hurt other teams if we play to our best.

“I’ve played at Forest Green before when I was at Cheltenham. That’s a bit of a derby, although it was the season when there were no fans allowed.

“They got promoted last season and will still have that bounce, but we’ll go there still feeling confidence.

“There were almost 2,500 fans there on Monday and that doesn’t go unnoticed. They’ll be there in their numbers again and making it feel more like a home game.”

Pompey will be looking to tighten up at the back after conceding three times from set-pieces in their two most recent matches.

Griffiths said: “It’s something we work on all the time because it’s a massive part of the game, so we’ve looked at the goals and what we can do better.”
