Ogilvie Looking To Bounce Back

Defender keen to move on from Ipswich defeat

1 October 2022

All boxers get knocked down to the canvas at some point in their career, but the best ones get back up again.

And after seeing their unbeaten league record ended at promotion favourites Ipswich, Connor Ogilvie wants Pompey to show their bouncebackability.

Colby Bishop had twice drawn them level from the penalty spot at Portman Road, only for Wes Burns to grab a late winner for the hosts.

Now Ogilvie wants the Blues to concentrate on starting a new run, rather than getting too downhearted.

The defender said: “It’s obviously disappointing because we’d got back to 2-2 and conceding was a kick in the gut.

“Now we’ve got to dust ourselves down and be ready to go again because we had been on a really good run.

"I believe we’ve got the squad to get back on track quickly and we’ll be working hard to do exactly that."

“For their third goal, I’ve tried to block the cross, but the ball hits me, loops up and on another day it goes over the bar.

“Ipswich have got a big group and a lot of good players, but we competed and threw everything at them at the end.

“I believe we’ve got the squad to get back on track quickly and we’ll be working hard to do exactly that.”

An injury to Joe Rafferty means that Ogilvie has now filled the unfamiliar right-back role in three successive matches.

He said: “It’s obviously different for me and not something I’d done before the manager put me there.

“But I was asked to do a job in order to help the team and I’ll keep doing that to the best of my ability.”
