Oluwayemi: Get The Job Done

Keeper looking for trophy progress

31 October 2022

Josh Oluwayemi will be hoping for another chance to impress when Pompey try to book their place in the knockout stages of the Papa Johns Trophy.

AFC Wimbledon visit Fratton Park on Tuesday evening for the final fixture in Southern Group B of the competition.

The hosts know that a single point will be enough to see them progress to the last 32, while a win after 90 minutes is needed to top the standings and guarantee a home tie.

Oluwayemi has played in both of the Blues’ previous matches following a summer switch from Spurs and is eager to keep developing.

The keeper said: “It’s really important and it feels like a big game – you always want to do well in the cup competitions.

“We’re back at Fratton Park and want to really excite all of the supporters, as well as get the job done.

"There’s always stuff you can improve on and everyone strives for perfection. You want to get everything right."

“I’ve been steady in these games so far, although I still feel as though there is another level that I can go to.

“But I’ve just been gelling into a new team and trying to do the best that I can in order to help the team.

“There’s always stuff you can improve on and everyone strives for perfection. You want to get everything right.”

Oluwayemi has been on the bench for all of Pompey’s league fixtures so far, with Josh Griffiths preferred between the sticks.

He said: “I’ve got a lot of respect for him and we’re always doing what we can to push the other one on in training.

“You’re always aiming to be a number one, but where I am is not a bad position for a 21-year-old and I’ll always be ready.”
