Tom Lowery has quickly made himself at home in Pompey’s midfield since arriving at the start of August.
The 24-year-old has already made eight appearances in a Blues shirt and helped maintain an unbeaten opening to the League One campaign.
This season’s ability to make five substitutions means there are more opportunities for players to get onto the pitch.
And Lowery believes the strength in Pompey’s squad means they can use that rule to their advantage.
He said; “I’ve not really had a pre-season, so do still feel like I’m lacking a bit of fitness and sharpness.
“But I’m pleased with the start I’ve made and feel like I’ve settled in – there’s a lot more to come from me.
“It’s important that we’ve got a strong squad and there’s a lot of depth, shown by the subs we’re seeing every week.
"It’s important to be able to make those changes and we saw on Saturday when it was 1-1 and we scored soon after the subs were made."

Dane Scarlett was the hero at the weekend, netting twice to help Pompey fight from behind to beat Peterborough.
Lowery said: “It was a massive result against a side that have just come down from the Championship and are expected to be right up there.
“We made a disappointing start, but we showed the character we’ve got to fight back and play the way we did.
“The way we set up was to beat their press and be a bit more direct, but I thought it worked well and the boys up top were able to win the first balls.
“Dane is an unbelievable player and I was pleased for him because his performances have been excellent since he’s been here.
“He’s got a great attitude and works really hard, so he deserves all the plaudits that he’s getting at the moment.”
