Pompey Academy maintained their position at the Merit League One summit with a 4-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon at Copnor Road.

They opened the scoring in the first half when Harvey Laidlaw cut the ball back for Koby Mottoh (pictured) to find the target.

And the advantage was doubled straight after the interval, with Destiny Ojo dribbling inside from the left and finishing powerfully.

Adam Payce then slipped a pass through for Tayo Singerr to net his first goal for the under-18 side late on.

But there was still time for Payce to win the ball in the middle of the pitch and provide the assist for Mottoh to wrap things up.

Lead professional development phase coach Sam Hudson said: “I thought we were the better side overall, but the game was probably closer than the scoreline suggests.

“Our opponents had a couple of great chances from balls over the top that we weren’t quite able to deal with.

"There are two games remaining and we’re in good form at the moment, so hopefully that will continue and we can end the season on a real high."

“That could quite easily have resulted in two goals conceded, but we also created plenty and looked a real threat going forward.

“Once we got to grips with their press, our build-up play was positive, particularly down the left and we were able to work passes into our strikers.

“We got our diamond midfield into the game and had our best period, while the way our players adapted during the match was pleasing.

“AFC Wimbledon changed their shape and gave us a few problems in the second half and it’s become a bit of a recurring theme that our opponents have to do that, which is a compliment.

“They had some momentum, but we scored two late goals to wrap things up and it was great to see Tayo open his account for the under-18s.

“With Christian Ayres from the under-15s also getting another hour at right-back and doing well, it’s a real positive.

“There are two games remaining and we’re in good form at the moment, so hopefully that will continue and we can end the season on a real high.”
