Koby's Debut Delight

Teenager enjoyed Blues bow at Forest Green

9 August 2023

When the season reviews are being conducted next year, it might be a game that some struggle to recall.

But a 3-1 Carabao Cup first round victory at a damp and misty Forest Green will certainly live long in the memory for one of those on the pitch.

A Kusini Yengi brace and Zak Swanson strike meant the job was all but done when the fourth official lifted his board to signal a double Blues substitution.

Joining the experienced Joe Morrell on the pitch on 86 minutes was 16-year-old academy forward Koby Mottoh.

And with new guidelines on how much time to add on at the end of games, the latter player enjoyed an extended debut.

Mottoh said: “I’m absolutely buzzing and hopefully there are many more appearances to come for me.

"I’m grateful for the opportunity and when I saw the sign go up for 11 more minutes, I had a big smile on my face."

“I was looking at the time and it was getting close to the end of the game, so I was just hoping to get on.

“It was tight at the start, but as soon as the penalty went in I just wanted to be on the pitch and making an impact.

“There were a couple of chances for me and I got my crosses in and worked back, so I felt I was able to do that.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and when I saw the sign go up for 11 more minutes, I had a big smile on my face.

“This is just the start and I’ve got loads more work to do, but I want to thank the academy staff and everyone who’s helped me on this journey.

“I’m grateful for everything they’ve done and the next step is to keep going because this is just the beginning.”
