Will Norris has made a positive start to his Pompey career since arriving on the south coast earlier in the summer.
The former Burnley keeper has kept two clean sheets in his first three appearances, helping the team collect seven points.
He will be hoping to build on that encouraging record when Cheltenham visit Fratton Park on Saturday.
And Norris is pleased that the Blues have given themselves something to build on with their early season form.
He said: “Since a draw on the opening day, we’ve picked up a couple of clean sheets and also got the wins, so it’s been a good start.
“If you don’t begin the season well then you can be left chasing other teams and things can unravel quickly.
"Hopefully I’ve picked up the skills required over the years in order to make me a well-rounded goalkeeper."
“It’s been nice for me to be able to play my game, be as consistent as possible and make good decisions at the right moments.
“Hopefully I’ve picked up the skills required over the years in order to make me a well-rounded goalkeeper.
“You need good coaches and we’re very lucky here to have Joe Prodomo. I’ve worked with a number of them during my career and if you pick up what they teach you, then you’ve got a chance.”
Norris made a fine instinctive save to deny Exeter defender Pierce Sweeney a late equaliser in Tuesday’s home victory.
He said: “It was such a key moment and I didn’t actually think I’d got enough on the ball to keep it out.
“So the relief when I saw it just about nip past the post all came out in that pretty emotional fist pump.
“You’ve got to enjoy moments like that, although I’d rather have a quiet finish than have to make saves like that.”
