Robertson: A New Experience

Midfielder loved raucous Fratton atmosphere against Exeter

16 August 2023

Alex Robertson had shown glimpses of his talent in appearances from the bench at Forest Green and Leyton Orient.

So the Fratton faithful were eager to see what the Manchester City loanee could do when he was properly unleashed.

That happened in a midweek League Contest with Exeter, when he was named in the starting line-up by John Mousinho.

Robertson impressed in the 1-0 victory and had chances to score himself before Colby Bishop grabbed the crucial goal.

He said: “It was awesome. The fans were brilliant and the match worked out because we got the three points.

“There’s not much more I can ask for – maybe a goal, but there are always more games to come for that.

"I could hear the fans all night and it’s something I’ve never really experienced – that’s the whole point of the loan."

“I would have liked to get the ball a bit more, but that comes with settling in and there were a few occasions where I could have scored.

“We defended and attacked well and it was an all-round good performance. We fought hard to get the win.

“I could hear the fans all night and it’s something I’ve never really experienced – that’s the whole point of the loan.

“I loved it. It was exciting and I just wanted to get into the game and be able to do my thing to impress and excite them.

“Even the night before, I couldn’t really sleep and I just wanted to do my best for the badge and for the team.

“Now I’m looking for a goal or an assist and to try to be a bit more creative in the final third, but hopefully that will come with a bit more game time.”
