Lane: I Want To Add To Pompey's Rich History

Forward's delight at Fratton switch

Paddy Lane netted a stunning long-range strike when Fleetwood drew at Fratton Park last season.

Now he is hoping to make a good impressive on the Pompey faithful after completing a deadline day switch to the south coast.

The 2021/22 League One Young Player of the Season has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

And after speaking to a couple of former Blues, he admitted that it was not a difficult decision to make.

The 21-year-old said: “The move had been in the works for a couple of days and I was over the moon to get it over the line.

“I’ve played at Fratton Park twice before and it was unbelievable – I remember walking out of the tunnel and thinking it was superb.

“So when I heard that Pompey were interested it was a no-brainer for me. I said to my agent that if we can, I need to go down there.

“Ellis Harrison spoke highly about the place and I also spoke to Callum Johnson. They both gave good references.

“I know this is a club with rich tradition and I’m hoping we can get back to those previous levels. I’m hoping I can add to the history.

“The fans here are superb and so I’m looking forward to being on the home side. I can't wait to meet them all.

“I spoke to the gaffer and I like the ideas he has for me and the club, so I’m excited to be able to work with him and all the lads.

“I’m buzzing about forming those connections with the rest of the players and working hard to get Pompey where it belongs.

“I’ll be forever grateful to Fleetwood for giving me the platform to play in League One and last season was a dream. I want to replicate that form here.”

Lane is hoping to provide the goals and assists that can help Pompey climb back up the table in the coming weeks.

He said: “I like to play on the right and come in on my left foot, getting balls into the box and taking some risks.

“I want to create chances, but will also work hard for the team and do my job off the ball. I want to get the crowd on their feet.

“I feel like I can add goals and creativity, as well as being a good personality around the place to create a positive vibe.”
