Ogilvie: Burton The Only Focus

Defender looking to bounce back against Brewers

13 February 2023

With 18 games of the season remaining, there are still plenty of League One points up for grabs.

But Connor Ogilvie insists that Pompey cannot afford to look beyond Tuesday evening’s clash with Burton at Fratton Park.

They head into the contest on the back of a weekend defeat at table-topping Plymouth, while a late leveller denied them victory against Barnsley in the most recent home contest.

Ogilvie admits that the Blues are disappointed with their current standing of 11th in the table and wants to start putting things right against the Brewers.

He said: “Every game is important – and this one is no different. We all want to bounce back after suffering a loss at the weekend.

“We’ll have to be right at it in order to get a result, so it’s important to get our heads down and make sure we’re ready to face Burton.

"We’ve got to keep pushing our way up the table and the important thing is we keep going right until the end of the season."

“At a club like Pompey, you want to be around the top six and pushing for promotion, but we’re obviously not there at the minute.

“We’ve got to continue climbing our way up the table and the important thing is we keep going right until the end of the season.

“But it’s important that we just take things game by game, so all our focus at the moment is on facing Burton.”

Ogilvie believes that new head coach John Mousinho is putting his stamp on the side after arriving just over three weeks ago.

The defender said: “He’s just been looking to implement his style into the squad, with high pressing and a lot of energy.

“He came in the day before his first game and we managed to get a positive result, so now we’re looking to pick up a few more wins.

“We’re more of a man-to-man team now and so it’s about winning our individual battles all over the pitch.”
