Pompey Support Green Football Weekend

Club asks fans to complete sustainable travel survey

2 February 2023

Portsmouth Football Club are delighted to be participating in the world’s biggest football campaign to tackle climate change – Green Football Weekend.

This Saturday's league fixture against Barnsley will be the club's designated Green Football Weekend game, with supporters encouraged to make climate-friendly actions, both in their daily life and matchday routines.

Fans have been registering their green goals online, whether by eating a delicious Piglet's Pantry meat-free sausage roll, taking a shorter shower or cycling and walking rather than driving.

There are only a few days left to score those green goals and fire Pompey up the table, so register your eco-friendly goals here.

Alongside supporters, the club themselves continue to do their bit to minimise the environmental impacts of activities across all operations, with a number of matchday activities planned to support this.

As part of the initiative, Blues supporters will be sent a survey ahead of Saturday's game, asking questions around travel to and from the stadium on a matchday.

Collecting responses from this survey will be a crucial component towards developing the strategic redevelopment of Fratton Park.

Alex Tatner, the club’s impact and sustainability officer, will be appearing on Express FM on Saturday to promote the importance of Green Football Weekend and how Pompey in the Community are getting involved with challenges taking place in the Fanzone before the game.

The Pompey skipper will also be wearing a green armband against Barnsley to mark the occasion.

The club recently pledged their commitment to environmental sustainability by signing the Portsmouth Green Partnership Charter, with more details available here.

Pompey in the Community also launched their first Premier League Inspires sustainability event, which saw school children from Castle View Academy and Admiral Lord Nelson learn and work together to create new ideas around sustainability.

Green Football Weekend is powered by Sky Sports, BT Sport, the Football Supporters' Association, Pledgeball, Planet League, First News and Count Us In.
