Bernard: Feeling Strong And Raring To Go

Defender discusses Pompey loan switch

31 January 2023

Di’Shon Bernard has played League Two football with Salford and in the Championship with Hull.

Now the centre-back has the chance to complete the EFL set after joining Pompey from Manchester United for the remainder of the season.

An injury meant the 22-year-old spent the first half of the campaign at Old Trafford instead of heading straight back out on loan.

But now he is raring to go again and looking forward to helping Pompey enjoy a successful remainder of the season.

Bernard said: “I’m really excited to sign here. I can’t wait to get going and to play in front of the fans here.

“I’ve been out injured and was doing my rehab with the under-23s, so it’s good to get back to men’s football again.

"I’m a defender who’s quick and aggressive, but also comfortable on the ball and looking to play through the lines."

“That was a bump in the road for me, but I’ve got over that now. I made sure I got the recovery process right and am feeling strong.

“My agent told me about the move and I thought it would be good for me to show everyone what I’m about.

“The manager has ambitions for this club that align with mine and he knows where he wants to take it.

“I’m a defender who’s quick and aggressive, but also comfortable on the ball and looking to play through the lines.

“The lads have welcomed me and they seem like a good bunch. I think I can bring a lot to this team and hopefully also chip in with a few goals.

“I want to play a lot of games and keep developing as a player, while also helping the side climb the table.”
