Pompey are mourning the death of Anton Walkes, who has tragically passed away at the age of just 25.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his current club Charlotte FC after the versatile former Blues player was involved in an accident in South Florida.
Walkes progressed through the Tottenham academy and was brought to Pompey by Kenny Jackett – initially on loan – in January 2018.
He made a total of 66 appearances for the club and netted three goals, including a stunning strike in a 5-2 win at Fleetwood.
Walkes appeared at Wembley in the memorable EFL Trophy final victory over Sunderland in March 2019.
A popular member of the squad, he showed his adaptability by featuring across the back-line and also in the centre of midfield.
Walkes departed for Major League Soccer side Atlanta United two years after his arrival before signing for Charlotte FC in December 2021.
The thoughts of everyone at Portsmouth Football Club are with Anton’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time.
