Ryley Towler’s first two starts in a Pompey shirt have both ended in League One clean sheets.
Victory over Exeter on home soil on Saturday afternoon was followed by a midweek success at Fleetwood.
It was Towler’s header that came back off the bar for Joe Pigott to wrap up a 2-0 win on the Fylde coast after Joe Morrell had been sent off.
And the defender was delighted with how strong the Blues were at the back to ensure John Mousinho continued his positive start to life as head coach.
He said: “It was a great result and we had to battle – especially when we went down to 10 men and Fleetwood went long.
“We had our chances and could have taken more of them, but we won our tackles and second balls, and played some good football.
"We’ve just been told to work hard and just enjoy it and that’s definitely paid off in these past two matches."
“In the end I thought it was a brilliant defensive performance from us and it’s great to keep another clean sheet.
“I thought my chance had gone in, but luckily Joe was there to finish it off and that was a great feeling right in front of our fans.
“We’re still learning things from John and after Saturday there’s a week for him to implement a few more thing.
“We’ve been told to work hard and just enjoy it and that’s definitely paid off in these past two matches.”
Towler has already built up a solid partnership with reigning Player of the Season Sean Raggett at the heart of the defence.
The 20-year-old said: “He’s been talking to me all the time and helping me in training, always giving me little tips. He’s a rock.”
