Pompey Mourn Tony Priscott

Former Blues outside-right passes away

25 July 2023

Pompey are mourning the death of Tony Priscott, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 82.

The outside-right scored seven goals in 40 appearances for the Blues after progressing through the junior ranks.

He was handed a debut at Charlton on the final day of the 1959/60 campaign, as manager Freddie Cox named an experimental line-up.

Pompey were relegated to Division Three at the end of the following season, but Priscott impressed in a struggling side.

Despite this, he only made four appearances the next campaign, as the side secured the title under new boss George Smith to make an instant return to the second tier.

Priscott left Fratton Park to sign for Aldershot that summer and later rejoined the Hampshire club after a spell linking up with Cox again at Bournemouth.

After hanging up his boots, he worked as a pastor at Kings Church in Ringwood and would return to Fratton Park for former player events, including the one held back in April.

The thoughts of everyone at Portsmouth Football Club are with Tony’s family and friends at this sad time.
