Pompey Women Sign Leeta Rutherford

Midfielder returns for third Blues stint

21 July 2023

Pompey Women are delighted to announce the signing of Leeta Rutherford.

The midfielder returns to the Blues for her third stint after previously leaving in 2016.

Since then she has played in the Championship with Lewes, Crystal Palace and Southampton, having won the National League title with the latter club in 2022.

Rutherford arrives back at Pompey with 215 appearances and 46 goals already to her name, having made a debut in a 0-0 draw with Watford under Vanessa Raynbird in 2005.

She was also part of the club's title-winning sides in both 2011/12 and 2014/15, managed by Raynbird and Perry Northeast respectively.

Blues boss Jay Sadler said: "I am really pleased to welcome Leeta back to Pompey.

"I know she will be looking to continue her legacy, here with us, I'm very much looking forward to getting to work with Leeta on the training pitch again."

"A lot of hard work has gone into our recruitment plans over the summer, with Leeta being one of the first players we contacted.

"I have long admired her abilities and have followed her career closely, so when the opportunity arose to secure her, we didn't hesitate.

"She arrives with enormous pedigree, having won this league on three separate occasions during her illustrious career. Twice of which were with her home club Pompey.

"Leeta's an industrious midfielder who will bring fight and tenacity into every game she plays.

"With the ball she’ll be at the heart of every action and will look to dictate as much as possible.

"I know she will be looking to continue her legacy, here with us, I'm very much looking forward to getting to work with Leeta on the training pitch again."
