Danielle Rowe Departs Pompey Women

Captain leaves Blues

22 June 2023

After five years and 129 appearances, club captain Danielle Rowe is departing Pompey Women.

She arrived at the club in July 2018 and won the Hampshire Cup in her debut season.

Rowe also picked up the Supporters' Player of the Season trophy for her performances throughout the 2018/19 campaign.

She hit a half-century of appearances against Yeovil in August 2020 – the first competitive game after the National League curtailment earlier that year.

"She should be proud of everything she has achieved, being part of some special moments and she will rightly be remembered as an iconic figure."

Football was stopped due to the pandemic once again, but Rowe won her second Hampshire Cup title on the Blues' return to action in May 2021.

Hannah Haughton was the hero, saving two penalties during the shoot-out, but Rowe converted her spot-kick to help Jay Sadler's side to their 12th successive triumph.

She was named club captain in November 2021, stepping up after the departure of midfielder Jade Bradley, with Haughton as her deputy.

Rowe rounded off her fourth season by lifting her first trophy as skipper, following the Blues' 3-0 Hampshire Cup success over Bournemouth.

"Dan has been an incredible teammate, to so many players, and naturally matured into the role of club captain, representing this club with distinction."

The 26-year-old joined Pompey Women's 100 club after hitting a century of appearances in September 2022.

And Rowe lifted her fifth successive PDFA Cup to round off her five-year stint on the south coast.

Head coach Sadler said: "She has shown tremendous longevity, wearing the famous blue shirt for over 100 appearances, putting her name among some of the club's greatest players.

"She should be proud of everything she has achieved, being part of some special moments and she will rightly be remembered as an iconic figure.

"Dan has been an incredible teammate, to so many players, and naturally matured into the role of club captain, representing this club with distinction.

"I want to place on record my thanks for her brilliant contributions to the club's success, throughout her years here and I wish her the very best for the future."

Everyone at Portsmouth Football Club would like to thank Danielle for her efforts and wish her all the best for the future.
