Blues In The Community: Supporter Groups & Fan Experiences

The latest news about Pompey's involvement in the local area

23 March 2023

This is the latest Blues in the Community update which highlights the involvement of players and staff in the local area recently.

John Mousinho and Richard Hughes met the Central Branch Supporters’ Club in the Legends Lounge at Fratton Park on Monday, in front of a healthy audience of more than 50 members.

The head coach and sporting director explained their roles in greater detail, spoke about the recent victory at Bristol Rovers, the form of Colby Bishop and the aims of the club, both in the short and long-term.

Mousinho also spoke about his first face-to-face meeting with Eric Eisner and Andy Redman, revealing that they visited the dressing room immediately after the 2-0 win at the Memorial Stadium.

In their relatively short time at the club, the duo have already attended meetings with the Tony Goodall Fans’ Conference and members of the Chichester Supporters’ Club.

Despite a serious knee injury preventing him from playing, Ronan Curtis was still on the pitch ahead of the last home game against Sheffield Wednesday, interacting with our flag-wavers and other young supporters.

The Republic of Ireland international will be out for the remainder of the season, but still made time to bring joy to the next generation of the Fratton faithful.

Finally, the club donate signed shirts and balls on a monthly basis, picking two deserving charities from the mountains of requests received.

Recent recipients of merchandise include a charity ball held at The Marriott Hotel in Portsmouth for Sophie's Legacy and Moorings Way Infant School, on behalf of a pupil suffering from a rare form of cancer known as Wilms tumour. More information on this can be found here.

The club have also sent a signed shirt to Blyth Academy in Ontario, Canada, where Pompey fan Stan Cohen has proved an inspiration to many pupils and fellow staff members, who nominated him for an award.

He is known for putting his Blues-themed lunchbox in the staff fridge every morning and signing all his emails to colleagues with ‘Play up Pompey’!
