The Northern Ireland international headed home a Joe Pigott cross to draw the hosts level against Wycombe in the final fixture of the season.
It secured the point required for the Blues to finish up their above opponents in eighth position and Lane was overjoyed to open his account for the club.
He said: “It’s been a long time coming and the gaffer’s been telling me that he wants goals and assists.
“Luckily, I managed to nick one at the back stick and I was just over the moon – a lot of emotion came out when it went in.

“I’ve celebrated one (a goal at the Fratton End) before, although it wasn’t for the right team, so this one was a special moment!
“I know that it’s the last game of the season, but it meant the world to me and my family were here to see it.
“It got us back into the match and I felt we were the better team throughout. I thought we were brilliant.
“I don’t think we deserved to be 2-1 down after 55 minutes, but we kept plugging away and could have won it.”
Lane has finished the campaign in impressive form after a relatively slow start to life on the south coast.
He said: “It's been building up since I arrived in January and the manager’s given me the confidence that I need.
“Now I’m just looking forward to next season already and the goal’s given me confidence because I want to experience that again and again.”
