Loan Round-Up: Steward The Penalty Hero

Keeper shines in FA Trophy shoot-out for Gosport

9 October 2023

Several members of the Pompey squad were involved for their loan clubs over the weekend.

Toby Steward
There was midweek disappointment for the keeper as Gosport were beaten 4-2 at National League South side Welling in an FA Cup third qualifying round replay.

But there was more success on Saturday, when they defeated Salisbury – where he previously had a loan spell – to reach the first round proper of the FA Trophy.

The tie finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, but Steward saved three penalties in the shoot-out to ensure Boro would progress.

Josh Oluwayemi
The keeper continued his bright start to life with Chelmsford by keeping a couple of clean sheets to help them record back-to-back victories.

First up was a 3-0 FA Cup replay victory over Bromsgrove Sporting that secured a home clash with Whitby in the final qualifying round.

And the Clarets won by the same scoreline at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, leaving them just outside the play-off places in National League South.

Haji Mnoga
The defender won a penalty that was converted at Altrincham in midweek, although it could not prevent Aldershot losing 2-1.

But they bounced back on Saturday with a 1-0 win at high-flying Solihull Moors leaving the Shots sitting one point outside the National League play-offs.

Destiny Ojo
There was another start for the teenage striker, who has been enjoying some free-scoring form for Poole of late.

He did not find the target in his latest outing, but still helped the Dolphins beat Sholing 3-1 to progress in the FA Trophy.

Maxwell Hurst
The striker started for Baffins Milton Rovers in a 1-0 loss at Blackfield & Langley that leaves them sixth in the Wessex League Premier.

Harry Jewitt-White
A 2-1 defeat to Hampton & Richmond leaves Havant & Waterlooville bottom of National League South.

The Pompey midfielder emerged from the bench midway through the second half at Westleigh Park.

Harvey Laidlaw
The full-back started for struggling Horndean in their 3-1 home defeat to East Grinstead in the Isthmian League South-East Division.
