Pompey Women saw their excellent start to the season come to an end with a narrow defeat at Hashtag United.
Georgia Griffin netted the only goal for the Londoners – who were promoted last season – after just eight minutes.
Jay Sadler unsurprisingly stuck with the same side that hit nine unanswered goals past Cardiff the previous week.
But they got off to the worst possible start, with Jade Keogh sending the ball in behind the defence for Griffin to slot home.
And Pompey might have fallen further behind, as Sammy Rowland smashed a shot against the post and then fired over from the rebound.
A break for drinks midway through the first half gave the visitors a chance to regroup and get instructions from Sadler.
They soon started to improve and a low Sophie Quirk ball in from the left was just out of reach for Emma Jones.
The Blues then came close to levelling just before the interval, but Ava Rowbotham could not beat Frankie Angel after meeting Quirk’s cut-back.
Half Time: Hashtag United 1 Pompey 0
Pompey looked much more creative after the restart and a long-range effort from Jones cannoned against the woodwork.
Jones was in the thick of the action again moments later and slid a pass out to Quirk, who curled narrowly past the post.
And the visitors were left wondering if they had done something to upset the football gods on the hour mark.
A low attempt from Beth Lumsden struck the inside of the post and trickled along the line before being hacked clear by Hashtag.
Sadler turned to his bench in search of some inspiration, with Dani Lane, Ali Hall and Emily Pitman all brought on.
Hall was soon involved in another opening, turning Jazz Younger’s long pass into the path of Jones, whose shot rolled narrowly wide.
And a low strike from Jones was then turned around the post by Angel, as the hosts continued to hang on to their slender lead.
Pompey kept battling away as the contest entered stoppage-time, but they were unable to find a late leveller.
