Poole: We Were Magnificent

Defender's delight at scoring in win over Peterborough

2 September 2023

Regan Poole hailed an attacking Pompey display that saw Peterborough blown away at a jubilant Fratton Park.

After a poor start that saw Ricky-Jade Jones give Posh the lead, the hosts turned the contest on its head.

Colby Bishop and Abu Kamara both netted before the break and it was Poole who effectively wrapped things up after it.

Even a late red card for Joe Morrell failed to disrupt the Blues, who remain the only unbeaten team in League One.

Poole said: “It was a really good game after being poor for the first 20 minutes and I thought we were magnificent in the second half.

“We dominated them from start to finish – there was chance after chance after chance. We could have scored more.

“A few changes had to be made when we went down to 10 men, but I thought we saw the game out well.

“We were a real threat and there were so many crosses in for Colby, who was excellent. He bullied the centre-halves.

“We normally build from the back a bit more, but we got up the pitch quicker and if it’s working, then use it.

“Peterborough started well and were able to get at us – they’re a quick side and I’ve no doubt they’ll be up there come the end of the season.

“We were a bit slow out of the blocks, but we got to grips with the game and after getting the goal, there was only going to be one winner.

“We’re a work in progress, but it all came together for us in the second half. There’s a good squad and it looks positive for the season.”

Poole opened his goalscoring account for Pompey by turning home Kamara’s delivery at the Fratton End.

The defender said: “I’ve actually been quite disappointed over the past few weeks because I could have had a few.

“I hit the woodwork against Cheltenham and then there was a header at the back post at Stevenage last Saturday.

“So it’s been coming and I’m delighted. It felt amazing and hopefully there are many more goals for me here.”
