Crowds Come Out To Honour Champions

Men's and women's sides celebrate title triumphs on the common

28 April 2024

Two teams, one club. And a wealth of memories that will last a lifetime.

It was a special afternoon as thousands of Pompey fans descended on Southsea Common to celebrate a double title triumph.

The men’s and women’s teams had won their respective divisions, meaning both can look forward to Championship football next season.

There was more reason to cheer for Jay Sadler’s side, who were presented with their medals and the National League Southern Premier Division trophy for the first time.

Michael and Jane Eisner – the respective chairs – were present to witness the party, as were directors Eric Eisner, Andy Redman and Mark Catlin.

But as well as celebrating the present and looking to the future, there was also an opportunity to thank those who helped ensure the club’s survival in the past.

Former chairman Iain McInnes was joined by ex-Blues directors Mark Trapani and Mick Williams to be interviewed by BBC Radio Solent’s Andrew Moon.

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress also took to the stage, while there were chats with Guy Whittingham, chief executive Andrew Cullen, supporters and representatives from the University of Portsmouth and the Royal Navy.

John Mousinho and Rich Hughes spoke about the work that has gone in to making Pompey champions, while from the playing side, the crowd heard from skippers Marlon Pack and Hannah Haughton, along with Conor Shaughnessy and Ella Humphrey.

And as a fitting finale, both teams took to the stage and held their silverware aloft, as Queen’s ‘We are the Champions’ blared out from the speakers.

The most successful football club in the south has struck again. Now for the Championship…
