It was an unfamiliar limb bearing the captain’s armband at Sincil Bank on Saturday.
But Will Norris was proud to be selected as skipper in the absence of Marlon Pack against Lincoln on the final day of the season.
Late goals from Myles Peart-Harris and Paddy Lane ensured the campaign concluded with a 2-0 victory.
And Norris was delighted that a much-changed side were able to give their travelling support another reason to celebrate.
The keeper said: “The lads produced a great performance and it was a privilege – a real honour – to be named captain.
“We’ve shown that we can play in various styles – we controlled the first half and then it was a bit different after the break.
“Lincoln had to come out a bit more as they were chasing the play-offs, but our lads were really professional.

“A lot of them have come into the side having not played a lot of football lately and were a real credit. They did the business.
“We didn’t want to finish the season on a bad note and were determined to produce a good performance for the travelling fans.
“They’ve been great all season and we could have sold a lot more tickets, but it was a great atmosphere.”
Pompey’s two goals came after Norris had kept out a spot-kick from Danny Mândroiu early in the second half.
He said: “It’s always nice to save penalties, although I’ll have to look back at the build-up and how the ball was given away.
“We were perhaps caught trying to over-play, but that comes with the territory of how we like to break teams down and draw them out.
“That’s probably the first time we’ve been punished like that, so it was good to make the save. I’ve been due one.”
