Sean Raggett was delighted at another Pompey win that moves League One promotion a step closer.
He conceded that they were not at their best in a 3-1 success over Shrewsbury at a packed Fratton Park.
Jordan Shipley had struck for the visitors to cancel out Chey Dunkley’s early own-goal before a Colby Bishop brace secured all three points.
And Raggett knows that with the prize now within their reach, that was the most important thing for the Blues.
The defender said: “I thought we started quite well and scored the early goal, then perhaps got a little bit sloppy.
“I’m not sure what you put that down to, but at this stage of the season the biggest thing is winning games.
"There was a real willingness from everyone out there on the pitch to get the win and that got us over the line."
“There was such a big effort from the side against Derby earlier in the week, so perhaps that came into it, although I don’t like making excuses.
“The spirit and togetherness in this squad means that even when we’re not at our best, we can still get a good result.
“There was a real willingness from everyone out there on the pitch to get the win and that got us over the line.”
Raggett is confident that Pompey will keep their feet on their ground, despite knowing that victory at Bolton next Saturday would guarantee a spot in the Championship.
He said: “There’s so much experience in the dressing room and guys who have played at a higher level.
“That definitely helps us, especially with the younger lads we have, but all the lads has remained focused.
“I know how much promotion would mean to everyone here and it would be a huge achievement for us to get there.”
