Bishop: This Squad Is So Strong

Goalscorer's delight after Reading are beaten

17 February 2024

Pompey showed the attacking talents they have at their disposal with a display of clinical finishing against Reading.

Colby Bishop netted their fourth in a 4-1 victory at Fratton Park and is delighted with the strength of the squad.

Paddy Lane had earlier opened the scoring before Marlon Pack and Callum adding further goals – with all three assisted by Abu Kamara.

That came after a strong start from the struggling visitors and Bishop was pleased with the way the Blues eventually took control.

The striker said: “Reading are a good team and we didn’t quite get the press right for the first 25 minutes.

“But the gaffer made a little tweak, we managed to put a lot pressure on them and got the ball higher up the pitch.

“I back this team to dig in and get behind each other in tough situations – that’s what you’ve got to do to win games.

"We’re right where we want to be, but have to stay humble and keep working hard."

“Paddy’s on fire – I need to tell him to calm down because he’s catching me! No, but I want him to score as many goals as he can.

“I wasn’t sure if the referee was going to blow up for my one. I looked at him and he shrugged his shoulders, so I just thought 'happy days'.

“I saw Kas getting ready to come on, so I knew I had to score. It’s great when you can bring on guys like him and Gavin Whyte.

“Our squad is so strong this season and we’re all right behind each other, wanting everyone to do well.

“We’re on a real roll at the moment and hopefully that can carry on. We’re right where we want to be, but have to stay humble and keep working hard.”

Bishop revealed his gratitude to the Fratton faithful, who made a racket throughout the League One contest.

He said: “The atmosphere was incredible – I don’t know how, but it keeps on getting better and better. It was so loud and we’re thankful for them.

“I’m so happy here and am enjoying my football. I work my socks off whenever I put the kit on and have had so many nice messages from the fans.”
