It was around a 720-mile round-trip embarked upon by more than 1,800 Pompey fans to cheer their side at Carlisle.
But the tiring journey will certainly feel worth it when heads hit pillows back on Portsea Island tonight.
Paddy Lane’s composed finish from an Abu Kamara pass in the second half was enough to secure victory for the League One leaders in Cumbria, while many of their promotion rivals dropped points.
And John Mousinho was delighted with the way his side recovered from a lethargic opener to emerge victorious.
The Blues boss said: “You come away from home, keep a clean sheet and win 1-0 – it’s job done. I’m really pleased.
“We didn’t start the game particularly well, but the performance for large parts was extremely positive.
“It looked like we were initially a bit weary from all the travel, although I’m not giving the lads that excuse because they’re professionals.
“We livened up midway through the first half and dominated possession, without creating a huge amount.
"It’s a nice selection problem when you’ve got someone like Abu coming off the bench because he’s been brilliant for us this season."
“It was just disappointing that we got ourselves into some really good positions and were then a bit sloppy. We were playing in second gear and needed to move the ball quicker.
“But Carlisle were decent and had a go, while we had a bit of a pop at half-time because we knew that if we showed a bit more quality, we’d win the game.
“That ultimately proved to be the case and we then saw things out at the end – despite a bit of pressure, I can’t remember Will Norris having anything to do.
“It’s a nice selection problem when you’ve got someone like Abu coming off the bench because he’s been brilliant for us this season.
“We hit the post and Callum Lang had one that I’m not sure how it went over the bar, so there were chances to score more.”
The Pompey side cannot spend too long celebrating their latest win, with a midweek contest against Cambridge on the horizon.
Mousinho said: “We’ll be back in on Monday and making sure we keep doing things right ahead of Tuesday.
“The good thing about our lads is when you find yourselves in these busy periods, they deal with it and can go again.”
