You cannot move much further from home without hopping on a plane or boat and departing this sceptred isle.
But Owen Moxon did not have any doubts about leaving hometown club Carlisle to make a deadline day switch to Pompey.
The midfielder – who shone when the Cumbrians won promotion from the fourth tier last term – has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal.
And he wants to help ensure that his new side can maintain their lofty position at the top of the table.
Moxon said: “It’s been a crazy 24 hours and I’m absolutely buzzing to be here. It’s a long drive down, but well worth it.
“Once I’d spoken with the manager it was a no-brainer and I just wanted to get here as soon as possible. I’m excited to get started.
“I had a great last season, getting to play at Wembley and winning promotion, but now I’m delighted to be here at a massive club.
"I want to be getting promoted and Pompey match the ambitions of where I want to be, so we’re looking to finish the season strongly."

Moxon could be making a quick return to Cumbria, who Pompey having an away match at Carlisle next weekend.
He said: “I’m looking forward to going back up and hopefully there will be a good reception, but we’ll have to wait and see!
“I’ve got nothing but love for Carlisle. I grew up around there and it’s an amazing club with amazing people, but this was the right time for me to move on.”
